Dr. Gallus will explore how AI is rapidly changing the field of meteorology, particularly weather forecasting, where AI models have been shown to be equally or more skillful and run thousands of times faster than traditional numerical weather prediction models that have been the primary tool forecasters have used to make predictions for roughly 50 years.

Fireside Chats on Artificial Intelligence provide a casual, engaging forum for faculty, staff, and students to explore the opportunities and challenges that AI presents across the university. These themed discussions with topical experts bring together diverse perspectives from instruction, research, administration, and student life to examine how the emergence of AI is shaping learning, productivity, creativity, and decision-making on campus. Participants are encouraged to share experiences, ask questions, and discuss emerging issues around the scheduled topic of discussion.

Please note that event discussions will be audio recorded and transcribed for research and evaluation purposes to better understand participant perspectives and inform future AI literacy outcomes and programming. Please review the full consent notice for details about the recording and use of event discussions.

Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
