Reading Circle: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI

Join your Iowa State University colleagues to share innovative strategies, foster student agency, and help build a campus-wide foundation rooted in authentic achievement.

How can we move beyond the fatigue of monitoring AI to focus on our students' professional development? We invite you to join a collaborative reading circle centered on The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI by Tricia Bertram Gallant and David A. Rettinger. Together, we will move past a "compliance" mindset to explore how we can empower students to value their own original voices as their greatest assets. Rather than viewing AI as a barrier, we will discuss how to use this moment as a catalyst for designing learning experiences so meaningful that integrity becomes a natural outcome.

The Circle will feature "Faculty Experts in the Room": David Cantor, Professor of Supply Chain Management; Antonio Lora, Associate Professor in Information Systems & Business Analytics; Ben VanDusen, Associate Professor in the School of Education; and other members of the CELT AI Teaching and Learning Committee. CELT staff members Laura Bestler and Misty Zimmerman will co-lead.

Learning Objectives:


Explore strategies for establishing a learning environment where students value their original work as the professional standard.
Discuss practical strategies for designing assessments that tap into student curiosity and promote student-centered thinking.
Connect with colleagues to share successes and navigate the evolving landscape of AI together.


Because this session is designed to include open conversation and small-group discussion, it will not be recorded. The goal is to create a space where participants feel comfortable sharing experiences, asking questions, and reflecting honestly with colleagues.
